Alabama first played the Hillbillies in 1901. LSU's first game with Ole Miss was in 1894. The history is there. Bama just didn't become the teacher's pet in the last few years.

A lot of teams have played each other for a long time. I think he meant more along the lines that for decades Alabama and Tennessee were the best the SEC had to offer and it was routinely the game of the year in the league.
