More quality in this Arkansas class than any before

% of Arkansas recruits with 5.6 or higher rating from Rivals:
2010 - 84% (16/19)-Petrino
2009 - 77% (24/31)-Petrino
2008 - 38% (10/26)-Some sort of Nutt/Petrino combo
2007 - 48% (13/27)
2006 - 32% (7/22)
2005 - 39% (9/23)
2004 - 32% (8/25)
The average star ranking for this class is a 3.0, much higher than over 14 teams listed ahead of Arkansas due to volume of signees. The class was always going to be small and aimed at providing depth, with kids being told to expect to redshirt.
A 5.6 Rivals rating is basically a middle of the pack recruit and anything below that is below average. Right now we have 16 out of our 20 rated players at 5.6 or higher. So, 84% of this class is considered to be above average. To put that in perspective last year (considered by many as our best class ever) we had 77% at a 5.6 or higher rating.
A 5.8 rating is a 4* player. Arkansas has signed eight 5.7 ratings. So, eight players are 0.1 from a fourth star, for what that's worth.
The main difference this year compared to all the other years is that we don't have the 4* and 5* superstar names at the top of the list that greatly exaggerate the Rivals team rankings. Instead Petrino is just putting together another top to bottom solid class and adding depth that has been neglected in years past as shown in these numbers.

Is this the standard response for Ark homers everywhere? I've seen this posted on like 3 different boards all by different folks. Is this the common defensive mechanism to defend the class of suck?

WooPig, good information but you are wasting your time. All the message board experts on here know that the Hogs' class "sucks" this year so let them keep believing our class has no talent.
What's going to be fun is when the Hogs start beating these higher recruiting ranked teams on a regular basis, beginning next year. They will be perplexed because the recruiting experts said that's not possible.

Great Post! It never fails to amaze me when idiots talk all the Shite about 4star-5star etc... and we kick the shite out of Auburn this year, beat LSU 3 of last 3 basically, lost to florida this year 23-20 before REFS were suspended! Proofs in the Puddin.... The difference in a 3star -4star in so many cases is simply exposure of the kid not a variance in talent.
