I read this a few days ago and they used the same term, "mixed income housing development." What exactly does that mean? I might live in one myself and not even know it.

It is basically the new term for projects. Instead of brick apartments buildings, they are actual houses. The gov will give discounts to those people who can get a loan for the house and have steady jobs and the gov subsidizes those who qualify for gov housing. The theory is that it mixes those who have steady jobs with those who have been on gov subsidies for a generation or more and this will help uneducated, poor families break the cycle...kind of like the 'a rising tide brings up all boats' theory.
