Maybe not at this moment, but there are 9 D1 programs in the state at last count. Texas Tech is (err, was) a perennial top 25 team. Oklahoma lives off their in-roads in Texas with alumni and transplanted okies, and to a lesser, but still significant degree this is true with LSU. Texas loses it's share of in-state recruiting battles with these two.

A&M was on top in Texas from 1984 - 1997.. Mack Brown ended that run. Regardless, A&M has almost as many alumni and a huge fandom. Mack routinely gets lifelong aggie fans to play for Texas.

Just think your statement is a little misleading. I will agree that UT owns the state as much as they ever have, save maybe for the 1960's but I wasn't around then.

oh, so true. Remember, Texas was getting beat by the likes of Baylor and Rice before Mack came along. Our stadium was 2/3 full and it wasn't "cool" to wear school colors. That's just the very tip of the iceberg of what Mack has meant to UT. It goes beyond football even.
