Overall I think they've been pretty good and haven't seen much "in your face" to the rest of the SEC. But I do have one question before giving a final score; Are Bama fans admiting that this is NC #8 as reported by ESPN and all reasonable sources, or do they insist on this being #13. I'm very cool with any Bama fan who expresses pride in another NC and wants to blow their horn a little for NC #8 instead of the rediculous #13 NC. If Bama insists on 13 that will be another display of arrogance and telling the rest of the SEC that Bama thinks they are all stupid....

since you're a noob to the board (but as your name shows you're older and probably cool because of that) i'll make it simple for ya!

8 = number of AP recognized National Championships Alabama has.

5 = number of National Championships that Alabama has that PRE-date the AP.

Fact: There were "best" teams during the years that pre-date the AP poll. Bama was that team several times.

So, like it or not, we as a University and a fanbase have very legit claim to more than 8. Debate us on each individual year and we'll have a legit argument.

ask dvlsadvocat if you want to understand them more thoroughly. but i warn you, ignorance is bliss in your case! it's probably more fun to be one of those fans that THINK they know what they're talking about and enjoy "laughing at alabama fans" because we all "delusionally" believe in these false championship years.

I have been around for many years and I've always tried to be fair and reasonable to other institutions, including other conferences, etc. I have lived and worked all over this great country and around the world, and back in the '60 it was amazing how much disrespect any team from south of the MD got; I knew and worked with guys from many schools and anytime the subject of football came up the Lsu and The SEC were rediculed for not playing anyone.... like the mighty Big 10.. Well, my point now is that NC were ALWAYS about AP and UPI MNC, and NONE of these rediculous off the wall polls ever meant anything. One could look in any record book and that's the way it was and now everyone wants to change the rules. Heck, even Arkansas claiming a NC in 1964 is BS. I challange anyone to look in the records for NC and they will not find Arkansas or OLe MIss.

getting this win was a huge test for the fanbase. but I agree, whenever we DO lose next will be a huge test too. I have little doubt that we'll rise up and pass that decently too. we better!

National Championships that that PRE-date the AP.

No such thing. There was no conception of an NC before the first AP poll and no player on any team thought they were playing for such a thing at any time. Any claim to the contrary not only shows a poor working knowledge of the game's history but also simply doesn't understand what a National Title is.

exactly. but regardless, at the ends of the season prior to the AP there was still a "best team" mentality..

why do you think the AP was born?

it was born because the sport had grown big enough to have enough people that wanted to bottle up a "winner" each year. i guess if you don't want to be REAL about it, then you can throw out ALL of the accomplishments and WINS that had transpired up until that point.

you have to look at it ALL, not just some of it.

But no way to quantify it, even subjectively. I'm sure other teams out there thought they were the best too.

I understand, but they started polling after the bowls in response to what happened in 1964, yet I have and will continue to consistently argue that Alabama has the only legit claim that year.

Thanks. I love college football and you will not believe the flak I took as a Southerner back in 60's and 70's. I remember being told we didn't play anyone; well, guess what in the 70's I was living in Dayton, Ohio, just up the road from Ohio State, and LSU actuall played and beat the hell out of WISCONSIN two consecutive years. Suddenly, it was oh, but Wisconsin is not too good this year. Give me a freaken break, they were in the Big 10, right. I also made the trip from Dayton to South Bend in 1971 when Lsu played ND. I actually sat in the ND student section with a friends student brother. You can imagine the crap we heard before the game about how they would whip the Southern bumbs. Well, they did, ND won 3-0 with help from a rediculous pass interference call in 4th quarter leading to winning ND FG. Have a great year. I'm thinking most Lsu fans are ready to forget football and basketball for awhile and start watching a little Tiger baseball.

You never stop. No bad day here. You guys were taken to school on how to rub someone the wrong way. Your name calling, ect shows how the "The Class of Alabama" exudes itself here.

When presented with salient facts, all you could do was call me a douchebag, etc.

You're like a grinder monkey playing the same song over and over and over. Using words like stupidity, douchebag, arse hat, on and on and on to address someone you disagree with. Well, that shows your level of intelligence.

DNJDG...you made your first reply in this thread to cutie at 1:13. Your latest post in the same thread is at 7:10. That's almost six hours.

And somewhere in the middle of today's hilarity, you inferred that Gumps who spent four hours a day were somewhat less intelligent than yourself.

Intersesting, wouldn't you say? From a purely global perspective, of course.
