Okay, let's make this simple and equal for all teams.

Every single team that has has EVER won the AP (1936-Present) and / or the UPI-Coaches (1950-Present) claims it. Notre Dame claims five in years when they did not Bowl. OU claims two when they did not Bowl. Army claims two, when they did not Bowl. Auburn claims one, when they did not Bowl.

Alabama claims two, when they lost their Bowl Game. OU claims one, when they lost their Bowl Game. Tennessee claims one, when they lost their Bowl Game. Maryland claims one, when they lost their Bowl Game. Minnesota claims one when they lost their Bowl Game. Mich. State claims one, when they lost their Bowl Game, and Texas claims one, when they lost their Bowl Game.

Many teams claim one when they lost a regular season game...Too many to mention.

Guess what? They ALL COUNT! Call the AP and / or the UPI-Coaches and ask them for their record of their National Champions, and you will find all of these teams listed in the year in which they were voted the MNC by the AP and / or the UPI-Coaches. It's a FACT and not up for debate.

Every single team in the pre-AP Era that has an Undefeated, Untied Rose Bowl Championship team claims it as a National Championship year. Michigan does, Notre Dame does, Southern California does, Georgia Tech does, and Alabama most certainly does.

If I am incorrect on either of these points, please let me know. Please show me where School X does not recognize or claim their undefeated, Untied Rose Bowl Championship teams from the Pre-AP Era or their AP / UPI MNCs as National Championship years.

Using those two paramenters, Alabama can easily claim 10 MNCs that should be universally recognized by every other team:

Pre-AP:

1925: Undefeated, Untied Rose Bowl Champions

1930: Undefeated, Untied Rose Bowl Champions

1934: Undefeated, Untied Rose Bowl Champions

AP Era:

1961: AP and UPI

1964: AP and UPI

1965: AP

1973: UPI

1978: AP

1979: AP and UPI

1992: AP and UPI

Anything above and beyond that is open for debate.

BTW, Alabama still has two Undefeated, Untied, Uncrowned Bowl Championship teams from the AP Era (1945 and 1966) in their hip pocket that they DO NOT CLAIM.
