He was told to arrive at the Mal Moore Athletics Building for what he was told were to be media interviews, but after a few minutes of speaking with UA coach Nick Saban, Butkus walked in the room with the trophy and McClain knew that he had been had.
"This was a real fun thing we did today," Saban said. "Ro didn't know. We were having an interview like we were on (the air) and Dick walks in and gives him the award, so he really got surprised. It was a lot of fun, we really enjoyed it."
"You think you're a pretty good linebacker, then Dick Butkus walks in the room," said McClain.

No disrespect to McClain nor Bama's LB, but McClain needs to thank his DL, especially Cody, for doing keeping the OL off the LB so they can do their job. 3-4 DL line play is critical so LBs can clean up.
