Keep in mind that when Tennessee and Auburn played yearly starting in 1956, Auburn played UT in Birmingham until 1980 except one time in 1974. Auburn played several non-conference games there until the late 1970's,too.

every other year.... Not 5 or 6 games a year like Alabama.

You've obviously spent some time in Birmingham, so you know what the town is like... imagine playing a "neutral" site game there in the 70s and 80s at the height of the tide.

How many tickets were given out that weren't alloted to the two teams... several thousand, I'm sure. Almost everyone of those tickets were going to bama fans.
