In the last ten years, Bama has experienced the 2nd worst decade ever in over 100 years of football and we have exactly the same SEC Championships as Auburn. Yes, theirs is more recent, but where the programs are right now, there is no doubt who will be getting the next one.

and since we're on the topic
how many total National Titles has Auburn won compared to Alabama? and how many SEC championships has Auburn won compared to Alabama?
*edit* no, i hate the banana dude.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse but it's a fact. Auburn has more recent hardware. What has Bama won recently besides regular season games?
Bama easily gets the nod. Bama's history and traditon is not only notable on a Conference level but on a National one as well.
By comparison, Auburn is/was a flash in the pan.

Actually the first post of this thread talks of things in the past so suck a fat one.

Alahunter, I wouldn't be so sure of that if I were you.
Look at how bad a smaller, undertalented Utah team completely dismantled, outcoached, outran Bama in the Sugar bowl. That showing ya'll made was an absolute disgrace to the South East Conference.
Auburn has the recruiting base they don't even have to recruit anyone from the STate of Alabama and Malzhan can build an offense better than that. I think Chizic's defense speaks for itself.

All is forgotten after one great season and one awful postseason

If you mean since Saban arrived, and between the two schools, which is most relevant BTW...then you could say an SEC west championship, a better record, a 36-0 arse beating, proven championship quality coaching, better facilities, stadium upgrades, and the knowledge that you are playing at the most successful SEC program in history.

Alahunter, do your homework on Gus Malzhan. He builds offenses similar to Utah and he's in a much better recruiting area. GA, FL, MS.
Saban disgraced your program in the sugar bowl against UTAH. Pittly-wink Utah for God sake.

Yea, I am sure Petey knew he would be forced to greyshirt when he signed his LOI in February. Spin it Bammers, that's what you do.

No spin needed, he knew well before the commitment. That's how far the distance is between the two programs at this point.
The illustration couldn't be made better with the recruitment of Owens. If Saban were the coach at Auburn, he would have been committed to Auburn months ago.

If you didn't want him to redshirt, then maybe Auburn should have gotten a coach good enough to get him to go to the school that his brother already attends!!! seems like that was too difficult for Chiznik.

Did'nt we hear this same type of spew about Tony Franklin after the Chick-fil-a bowl win over Clemson year before last.

Yup. And it wasn't just Saban that did us in at the Sugar Bowl. That was a complete team fail from coaching to playing. Everything sucked. Outside of saying that. I give Utah props. They came out fired up, with a chip on their shoulder and took us to the woodshed. I won't lessen their accomplishment in what they did. Only one other team beat us so they have a right to brag and in good sportsmanship, I can only say to a well prepared and well played team that night.

Here you go sport...

Ex-Hawk Petey Smith likely to 'grayshirt' for Alabama in '09
Don't be shocked if former Armwood all-state linebacker Petey Smith doesn't suit up for the University of Alabama this fall.
Fact is, Hawks coach Sean Callahan said, that has been the plan all along.
Smith was among four members of the Crimson Tide's incoming freshman class not on the team's initial 105-man roster when Alabama reported for fall camp Wednesday. Smith is expected to "grayshirt," meaning he wouldn't enroll until January so his signing doesn't count against the current signing class...
Callahan, reached Thursday, said Smith's grayshirt is not academic-related.
"That was always (the plan) because of (Alabama's) needs," Callahan said. "Petey always knew he was going in January from Day One and he was fine with that, but he was up there the whole summer working out."
