A decent point. But they had a heck of an oline and a heck of a backfield. They had a pretty good WR in Marcus Monk and one of the best freshmen TE in the game. I will also point out that Nutt did, in fact, have a pretty good QB at his disposal and chose not to use him.

They also had a few good defensive players as well. See the All-SEC team list. Its not like were that bad.

They finished the season ranked #9 in the SEC in scoring defense. While that seems pretty bad, please note that Florida finished #8, and Arkansas only allowed an average of 1 pt. per game more than the Gators. They finished one spot ahead of Tennessee, the Eastern Division champs.

They ranked 6 in passing D, and 8 in rushing D.

In short, their defense often played well enough to win many games. Seems like the talent was there.

Florida was shitty. They gave up 27 points to the worst scoring offense in the SEC that year (Ole Miss.) Saying that you're one worse than that is not impressive at all.
