Houston Nutt recruited this year like he never has before. Nutt rarely competed head-to-head with the top programs in the nation while at Arkansas.

I believe the fall-out in Arkansas forced Hootie to evaluate his approach to coaching. I think it also provided great incentive to prove Arkansas fans wrong. That's fine with me, Raymond Cotton Jr. is going to learn why Hootie has yet to develop a QB.

I think the separation between Arkansas and Hootie has been very good for both sides.

Remember, he was well liked in AR. He is from AR, had success immediately, knows the traditions, the state, etc... The state was behind him, fast forward 10 years, .500 in the SEC, never develops a QB on his own, then completely mishandles the Springdale situation (including running off a couple of popular players and a beloved coach).

A son of Arkansas that had the whole state's support became widely despised.

Hopefully, that experience gave him a fresh lease on life and he can make some changes to better himself. Becoming a better recruiter is the least of the changes he needed to make.

SLC, I agree with most everything you've said here. The only point I would have any contention with is the above. Kent Austin did a great job with Snead from the beginning of the season til the end, and I expect that Kent will work well with Cotton (and Nathan Stanley) as well. I think an OC like Austin that is both creative and has no agenda will help QBs succeed under Nutt where they have failed (or he has failed them) in the past.

and that is just it he wants to recruit, spend a lot of time coaching and improving the program because that is what he did at Arkansas. I believe he got comfortable at Arkansas something that will happen at Ole Miss as well.

The thing with Houston is that he believes he is a better coach than he actually is. He will lose a lot of close games call them heart breakers then when he does make a pretty good bowl game he usually will lose. Just be prepared for major let downs after great highs and an occasional top 20 upset here and there.

It is the same old song and dance with HDN -- but maybe just maybe he is out to prove all us Arkansas people wrong and continue to spill on about how he was misunderstood and mistreated by his old team. It matters more to him than it really does us especially when he is on TV asking about not us but teams we are playing and then that SMIRK---- upsetting......
