What's the point of a conference if everyone is in it?

As to geographic boundaries meaning nothing, just look at how many players are transferring simply because they don't want all that travel.its unfair to the players.

That was a good read. Thank you for sharing.

But I was told that ND was a place where you simply could not recruit enough elite players to win a championship, leading to Kelly coming to LSU. It's interesting to note that the 2024 24/7 recruiting rankings have ND at 9 and LSU at 7, the 2025 ranking currently has ND at 1 and LSU at 3, still early of course. ESPN's preseason top 25 has ND at 10 and LSU at 14. None of this necessarily proves anything, but it sure looks like ND can in fact recruit elite players, maybe it was the recruiter and not the school. As far as being in the SEC, hell no. Doesn’t that data suggest that both arguments have some truth to it? That Kelly has trouble recruiting but got a boost from LSU, and that Notre Dame can recruit at a fairly high level with a gifted recruiter running the ship?

Correct.
It will NEVER happen.
Why do people keep bringing up the idea?

It would be a win for the SEC and we would be stupid to turn them away. It would also be stealing the Big10's dream girl from them. Adding ND would bring media money for everyone involved. Hell, the SEC is the only conference that would actually make sense for ND to drop their independent status because of all of the big games it would immediately put on their schedule.
They would certainly be better than adding UNC or UVA.

One more thing to add is that South Bend is far closer than Austin for almost all of the SEC teams.
The only schools closer to Austin than South Bend are Arkansas, LSU, A&M, and OU. MSU is roughly the same distance to both.

Sure, I can see that. I've just always thought that the right guy at ND could bring them back to being a great team, that they're a sleeping giant, not a place where it's impossible to win big. And I HATE ND.

Why would they want to join a conference in football? They have a sweet tv deal and play an attractive schedule. The only reason I could see is if good programs quit scheduling them.

Right now, ND is the only team that it makes sense for the SEC to go beyond 16 teams in order to add.
They're the only team outside the Big 10 and SEC already who drives viewership. Texas and OU were in that category, but they just joined. FSU and Clemson are not.
I don't think FSU or Clemson would cause existing SEC teams to make more money if they joined. But ND plus ANYONE would result in more dollars for the other SEC teams.
This could change as the SEC gets closer to the expiration of their ESPN contract. But we just added Texas and OU and the per team playouf for SEC teams didn't change at all. And ND is the ONLY team at that level or higher who's not in the big 10 or SEC already.

Point to counterpoint Sankey got his arse tore up in negotiations. Unless you believe usc and ucla are just worth that much more than Tex/ou

Why not? Cal and Stanford are joining the ACC.
Posted on 5/12/24 at 9:56 pm to Tideroller
ND would have to give up too many of their rivals to ever consider joining the SEC, and they have no current motivation with the playoff expansion to join a conference anyway.

Why do we fans care in the least how much more money anyone gets? At some point the money will peak. What then? I like hating ND. Never been around a more arrogant fan base. They belong to the yankee conference Big10. I want Fla.St, Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia Tech. Anyone else would be disaster for SEC. Have heard rumors of Kansas to the SEC. You can’t be serious. Let’s Keep as much of of history and culture that built the SEC intact. ND is for New Years Day arse whipping!
NO ND!!!
