Group of Five Conferences are planning their own dedicated Top 25 Polls

Preliminary groundwork already is underway for the American, Conference-USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and SunBelt conferences to have an official Group of Five Top 25 national poll, with voting open only to head coaches in those leagues. Independent programs UConn and UMass also will be included in the rankings, pushing the number of teams involved to be approximately 64.
Perhaps they'll even come up with their own "bowl game system", etc. Stick a fork in it -- college sports is done.

I'm not advocating for what's happening to college football, but isn't it a bit of an overreaction to say college sports are "done" because the G5 is making their own top 25 poll? We're talking about a sport that has been absolutely dominated by a handful of programs since World War II. It's not like we're suddenly creating a system of haves and have nots, it has always been this way. If you can name one school that is currently in any of the G5 conferences that you want Georgia to put on the schedule, I'll drop this argument entirely.

Only old folks like me know the truth. There is no real college football anymore. All we have is pro and semi pro. As a Southern Mississippi and LSU fan I will say this. In the 80’s and 90’s USM played Bama almost every year. Back then gave Bama close games and actually made Bama sweat. Now, the games when they play are over in 10 minutes. USM type teams cannot pay the pros to play.

They need their own playoff like D2 and FCS schools do

If they were smart business people the G-5 would have started their own playoffs years ago. Instead of begging for Power 4 leftovers and some semblance of recognition they could be guaranteeing national titles and trophies every year and having a network like ESPN, who would jump at the content.
G-5 has always allowed their vision to outrun their grasp. Why not celebrate mid-tier football instead of sulking every time they were left out of the party?

I honestly think this could be a great thing. Too many G5 teams with weak schedules are given attaboy rankings. While that may seem all well and good there are plenty of P5 teams that play brutal schedules and accrue losses but would murder those G5s. That stuff meaningless to fans of top teams but it matters a ton to everyone else and it matters to coaches trying to rebuild. It affects a lot of coaches and their pay.
BUT there’s also no doubt that there are G5 teams who have proven something on the field by schedule and winning. They deserve recognition but maybe not over those with worse records against better competition. Then there are the G5s that have special seasons even if it is against dreadful competition as well as just G5s who are in the top of the G5 (many of those could take some mid level P5s.
Hopefully it helps everyone but it also needs to encourage G5s to add P5s to their schedules if their goal is to enter the regular polls.

Second crybaby thread started by this little pup today. Sit down and be quiet you sidewalker.

I don’t have a problem with it.
If they really want to make some noise they should stop playing the big conference schools and schedule among themselves. No more cupcakes for the big boys.
Sure they will miss the big paychecks, but they can return to what college football is supposed to be all about.

This is a good thing for college football in my opinion.
