Kind of at my wits end here. For 8 weeks now I have gone back and forth getting strep throat. I take my antibiotics and steroids and 2 days later I feel great, as soon as I finish the antibiotics about 2 days later I'm going back downhill. Queue a different round of antibiotics and steroids. I just finished my fourth round Wednesday and I feel it coming on again (still on steroid taper).

Leads me to believe something is nuking my immune system and I'm thinking mono? Tired of course, get so much head congestion that it makes me extremely dizzy, barely have any throat issues but I keep testing positive for strep.

Have done all the normal strep precautions after each round, change toothbrush, wash everything, etc. doctor thinks maybe one of my kids is a carrier for it but they are 9, 7, and 4 I think I would have hit before now.

Not as an adult but had it when I was 16, then I had a mono relapse (which I didn't know was possible), so I had it for about 5 straight months. I didn't feel right for probably about a year, shite is no fun.

Sounds like you could definitely have it, you can get it at any age.

Closest for me is I got a monotone voice once I turned into an adult due to the deadness inside me.

Had it when I was 18. Went to the hospital over it.

Be positive - it’s a good way to lose weight.

I think steroids will weaken your immune system

I apparently had mono and didnt find out about it until years later.

Told a doc i had late-onset penicillin allergy and described that i had strep years before and took it and had HORRIBLE reaction (inflamed organs and like full body hives).

He was like "you had mono not strep. that's what happens when you take penicillin with mono"

I never had the mumps but I remember as a kid if you got mumps and it went "down on you" old people would say you wouldn't be able to have kids.

hadn't thought about that in 30 years.

I had it in my early 30s. Zero energy and the worst sore throat of my life. Probably worth asking them to test for it if they haven't.

I had it when I was in college. It takes a while to fully recover.

Had it a year ago. Tons of mucous, worst congestion of my life, sore throat & swollen lymph node on my neck. It took weeks for my energy to come back and I lost about 10 lbs. Lymph node is still swollen to this day.

For some reason I always test positive for acute epstein-barr and have for years. Might want to ask your doctor to test you for epstein-barr. The fatigue is constant and can be brutal.

I had it when I was 23. It was by far the most sick I’ve ever been. I ran fever for a month straight.

Yes. Pretty much the same story as in your first paragraph. Came down with virus like symptoms, fever, chills, body aches, etc.

Doctor would give me the rural family med special....a steroid shot and a z pack. Would feel great for a few days, and then start running fever again. Rinse and repeat. 4th visit within a few weeks I was running another fever. He tested me for mono. I was positive and septic at that point. Fever spiked to 105 in the doctors office. Admitted into hospital immediately, given an ice bath to get my temp down. stayed on an IV antiobiotic drip for over a week. I don't remember what it was, but the doctor said it would kill anything short of cancer and aids.

Went from 185 to 130 pounds in the weeks prior to being diagnosed, had to get tonsils and adenoids removed, the whole nine yards.

I was 21 and in college at the time. Not a fun experience. Took almost 2 years to fully recover.

10/10 do not recommend.
