A&M didn't create the character, but only embraced it and invited it to the school's football functions. So seems like it will no doubt be one of y'all's "traditions" soon enough.
At the end of the day, a prominent aggie group created it, which indeed underscores your fanbase's obsession with the school that has always overshadowed them and incited jealousy amongst the A&M students.
