Coach Slim Pickens

Sounds like a Bammer problem to me. So jealous of getting buttfricked by Auburn in the 80s your boosters had to set him up.

You seem to be struggling with the context of this Pat Dye discussion.
You are the one who brought Bama into a discussion about Auburn coaches, Gump.

And how many National Championships do you have to show for the Pat Dye era? Face it, he was a Bear Bryant want-to-be but won nothing. I'm sure at the barn they are good with that. But that too is a barner thing.

Can't be Shug Jordan he won 1 SEC title in 25 years as head coach.
Shug took Auburn from being a nothing program to a consistent winner. He had 13 Top 25 finishes (7th most nationally in his quarter century tenure). He won a national title in 1957 and had Auburn not tied Georgia Tech in ‘58, they would have repeated as champs the next year.

Shug Jordan. Fought for his country and his team.

So you’re saying Jordan didn’t win the 1957 AP title?

I would go
Dye
Shug
Mike Donahue
John Heisman
Only drawback with Dye is he always had that game that he shouldn't lose get him. I will say and have always said this, Auburn 1983 was as big a screw job as 1977 Bama as far as the polls are concerned.

Pat Dye. This isn’t really a debatable question as no one really questions it.
He would've have had half the success he did, if not for his magnificent pants.

I can not believe no one has even mentioned the only Auburn coach to never lose a game as Auburn head coach. George Roy Harvey led Auburn to an impressive 2-0-2 record in 1893. Auburn has been trying to rekindle that magic ever since.

No question who the worst was. Harsin was one of, if not the worst thing to ever happen to Auburn.

Shug was an American Hero.
The rest just coached football.
“ participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France. Jordan received the Purple Heart for a shrapnel wound to his left arm sustained during the June 6 invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach and later participated in the Okinawa campaign in the Pacific in 1945. He also received the Bronze Star. Jordan had achieved the rank of major when he resigned his commission. ”

Thoughtful and reasonable summary RollTide1987. I do appreciate the Bama fans like yourself that are able to talk rationally about AU football. Unfortunately we also have the Gumps like bamameister and captdalton that also post on threads about AU that only have irrational and just plain stupid things to say……oh well.

quote:Shug, Tubs and Dye all have been excellent coaches and leaders of men for Auburn. Best in Auburn history? Hard not to choose from those three.
Who is the best Auburn fb coach in history ?
John Heisman wasnt too shabby either. They named the most prestigious individual trophy in college football after him afterall

I guess I’m of an age where Shug was literally a living legend.
Obviously Dye and Tubs had success. But to me Coach Ralph “Shug” Jordan was the quintessential Southern Gentleman.

I’m not an Auburn fan at all but as a student of the history of college football I would objectively sign off on this list.

Bama fans are 12 year old girls. It’s all about you.
Nobody likes you and now that Saban was replaced by a west coast pussy, there will be no redeeming factor about Bama football for the foreseeable future.
