Kentucky “slipping” but just out of the top 10. Pretty damned impressive.

Last few weeks are going to be kind right to see who comes away with the SEC title.

Best damn SEC baseball season ever. I find myself flipping channels checking in on all the games on weekends. Great games this past weekend. Hellava race going on with great games coming.

It really is a top heavy conference this year.

Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and aTm all have pretty strong holds on being a top 8 seed this year. From there though, it drops off to South Carolina and Vandy, who are 11-10 in league play...Miss State, who is 12-9 in league play, but has 5 Q3 & Q4 losses...then you have Georgia, who is better than they have been, but sit a game below .500 in league play.

Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, and Auburn have all been pretty disappointing overall this season.

So, I wouldnt classify this as the best SEC baseball season ever...It may be the best collection of the top 4 teams that the league has ever seen, or at least seen in a while.

I mean Georgia is #9 in RPI at the moment. If they go 5-4 to finish SEC play I think they host

Any SEC team with a winning conference record & RPI in the top 20 has a legitimate shot at hosting.

I would be surprised if a .500 conference team were to host.

Georgia's RPI is great, but finishing 15-15 in league play I dont think would do it. Especially with series left against Vandy, South Carolina, and Florida. Two of those series are at home.

My opinion is Georgia needs to get to 16-17 league wins to be in host consideration. ESPECIALLY when two of the final three series are against other SEC teams fighting for hosting spots.

Right now it seems like the league is a 6 host league. Top 4 is locked in to host sites/top 8 seeds IMO.

That would leave Vandy, South Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi State fighting for two host spots.

You can't go 0-5 in a week as a Sun Belt and not expect to free fall. Their RPI dropped from 14 to 23, ELO 16 to 51, and they're now 6th in their own conference.

I think if Alabama finishes 6-3 and gets to 15-15 in the SEC they have a chance, only because their conference slate was so difficult. They will have played a series vs every ranked SEC team other than Vanderbilt.

#1 Texas A&M (1-2)
#2 Arkansas (2-1)
#3 Tennessee (2-1)
@ #8 Kentucky (0-3)
#15 South Carolina (2-1)
@ #16 Mississippi St (TBD)
@ #19 Georgia (0-3)

Probably need to sweep Auburn to end the year, though.

I think 15-15 will get us there. Our RPI would be Top 12 and our SOS top 10. Some sneaky decent midweek wins as well

The other thing nobody seems to mention is the addition of KPI in the selection process. Committee members aren’t required to use it but it will be provided to them. UGA is #8 at the moment.

If UGA doesn't host, I feel sorry for the team that gets them in their regional.

This is kind of what I’m counting on. Seen us blow enough hosting opportunities to ACC teams with good pitching. Would rather take our bats on the road and dare other teams to get into a pissing contest

Georgia is going to have to be better than .500 to finish. Bottom line. Finishing 5-5 is NOT going to get a host spot.

TOP 16 According to D1 Last Week
1. aTm (won 2-1 over UGA)
2. Arkansas (won 2-1 over UF)
3. Clemson (won 2-1 over Louisville)
4. Tennessee (won 3-0 over Mizzou)
5. Kentucky (lost 1-2 to South Carolina) *drop, still top 8
6. East Carolina (won 3-0 over Memphis)
7. North Carolina (won 2-1 over VT)
8. Wake Forest (lost 1-2 to Notre Dame) *drop, still host
9. Florida State (won 2-1 over Duke) *rise to top 8
10. Oklahoma (lost 1-2 to Texas) *drop, still host
11. Indiana State (won 2-1 over Southern Illinois)
12. Oregon State (won 2-1 over Oregon)
13. Duke (lost 1-2 to Florida State) *drop
14. Coastal Carolina (lost 0-3 to Troy) *drop from hosting
15. South Carolina (won 2-1 over UK)
16. Arizona (lost 1-2 to Washington) *drop from hosting

So if Coastal and Arizona drop this week, Dallas Baptist & Oklahoma State likely move into those two hosting spots. West Viriginia, who had been plugged to host also won their series this past weekend.

The West Coast is going to get a couple of host spots. It will likely break down something like this...

SEC: 6 sites
ACC: 5 sites
Big 12: 1-2 sites
Pac 12: 1-2 sites
G5: 2-3 sites

Right now I would say UGA will end up at Florida State/Duke. A place with minimal travel. Alabama likely goes to one of those two as well as a 2 seed.

If State can take 2/3 from Alabama this weekend we will enter the hosting conversation.

Texas A&M
Arkansas
Tennessee
Kentucky

all definite host spots and at least 3 if not 4 will be Top 8 seeds.

SEC will be in play for two more host spots:

Georgia - #9 RPI but 10-11 in conference.
South Carolina - Probably closest to the lock to host
Mississippi State - 12-9 in conference but lowest RPI of potential hosts
Vanderbilt - 11-10 but toughest finish to the season - UGA, UT and UK.

I think it's going to take 15-15 for UGA and 16-14 for everyone else. State might even need 17-13. Those early bad losses killed the RPI. So that's 5-4 for everyone in this group:

UGA has Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Florida (WN Prediction: 5-4)
South Carolina has Missouri, Georgia and Tennessee (WN Prediction: 5-4)
State has Alabama, Arkansas and Missouri (WN Prediction 5-4)
Vanderbilt had Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky (WN Prediction 2-7)
