You haven't seen anything yet. The superconference era is just over that next hill.

I'm aware. I'm hoping that when the SEC/B1G break away from the NCAA that A&M bows out of this rat race. I loathe what CFB has become.

Alberts’ restructuring of the AD looks like he’s gearing up big time for NFL lite.

silly boy. Doesn’t understand the difference between an SEC game and an SEC schedule.
Silly aggie. Doesn’t understand that Texas had a tougher schedule than just about every sec team last year. One of the teams ranked ahead of them were beaten by the longhorns by 10 in their own stadium?

So are you saying the SEC is actually an easier league? Good to know! LOL

Had to take them to get Oklahoma, sooner or later they’ll leave to be the big fish in the small pond, and we’ll still have the Sooners.

And they’re probably going to run A&M off before they bail.

Win, win, win if you take the long view.

Texas has had a standing invite to the SEC since Harvey Schiller was your commissioner. Every previous expansion included a historical rival. It was inevitable.

That is not a factual claim.

First of all, who were the "historical" rivalries in '92 and 2012?

I get the SC-UGA thing. That series has been played more and longer than a lot of original member series because of the border thing but .... well, I guess there was the Deep South connection, the State Capital and Flagship University connection ... and SC had played all SEC members over the course of the 20th Century .... so I get that one.

Who was Arkansas' historical SEC rival in '92?

Arkansas was, maybe I guess, Mizzou's historical rival for entry some twenty years later. And A&M had history with both of them.

As far as Harvey Schiller's standing invite to Texas goes .... I've never once seen or heard that before now. Would you have a link to support your claim? Because, I know for a fact, that was never mentioned in either of the two accepted books about the history of the SEC from conception to the 2012 expansion.

Your claim seems like typical lefty revisionism .... revising history seems to be a thing with lefties, communists, socialists, et al.

Arkansas #1 rival in 1992 = Texas
Arkansas #1 rival in 2024 = Texas

A&M #1 rival in 2012 = Texas
A&M #1 rival in 2024 = Texas

Some will disagree.. most will not..

I have seen the article, but I don’t have a link and I’m not looking it up.. but the SEC wanted Texas back in 1980 something..

His argument is that the SEC took Arkansas and A&M to get Texas eventually.. that would be hard to prove, but it’s possible.. the same way the ACC & B1G keep taking Notre Dame’s rivals.. hoping ND will join..

“We focused on Arkansas and South Carolina, and really wanted Texas,” Schiller told me earlier this month. “So, something interesting happened: The (Texas) state legislature came back to me and said, ‘If you take Texas, you have to take Texas A&M.’ The funny part about it is that A&M was sort of lukewarm at the time about coming in.”

And the SEC wasn’t enthralled with the Aggies back then, Schiller said.

Dodds, in 1990, told the Associated Press that however the dust settled on conference realignment, the Longhorns and Aggies “will be together” in a conference.

You left out this part, but I think this one quote explains a whole lot..

Dodds makes this quote saying the Longhorns & Aggies "will be together" almost as a rebuttal as to why we didn't leave the SWC for the SEC back in 1990. He is saying.. we aren't leaving Texas A&M..

And if this interpretation is true.. it explains a whole lot as to why Dodds was so bent out of shape when A&M left to go to the SEC..

Just my two cents.. I had never seen that quote before..

yeah, that is interesting. Dodds likely felt betrayed after going to bat for the Aggies back then.

That said, it was 2 decades later. I don't blame TAMU for making the move. It was a no brainer for them. IMO it all worked out very well in the end.

I agree 100% that it was the right move for Texas A&M. I just never really understood why Dodds was so bent out of shape.. but I think this might explain it.. at least to a certain degree.

I DO feel sorry for all you right-thinking southerners who absolutely have no idea how bad it is going to be having Texas as a conf member.

Florida is probably the only other SEC school with A&M that would be able to join the Big 10 when the really obscene money starts flowing.
