It seems like even having a degree, outside of specialized fields, is becoming less and less important.
It used to mean that someone was actually "educated," these days, a lot of college graduates are legitimate morons.
We've devalued the college degree with years of nonsense, and eventually the market realized that a lot of these kids that we trusted had at least some baseline of knowledge due to their degree flat out don't anymore. And on top of that, finishing school at most places (outside of certain degrees) doesn't even require any sort of fortitude or truly difficult work, so you can't even count on them having some level of built in work ethic.
So the kids you are hiring aren't really much more technically advanced than others and they generally have more an expectation of advancement and upward movement because that's what people from their type of schools have done for decades.
It all leads to employers looking at it and saying "nah", and looking for kids whose resume screams "I work hard" even if they have limited technical knowledge and experience. It will certainly influence how I work with my kids on where they go to college and the type of college experience I want them to have.

When I've hired people I have always prioritized work history vs education.
It's easy to tell a lot about a person just from their resume, however it's likely that AI will change a lot of that.
