Damn dude, they're faking Nielsen ratings now too?

What is the highest rating in men's basketball history? I guarantee (4)UConn vs (5) San Diego State isn't it.

The highest rated was Indiana State vs Michigan St in 1979 (Bird vs Magic). It was a 24 rating but since I dont know what a rating point was in 1979 I dont know how many people exactly but we are talking over 35 million people probably.

The fact that a womens game, not even the championship game, could beat out the NBA finals is astounding no matter how many of you want to dismiss it.

Count me in the group that watched last night and didn’t watch one single NBA game last year.

For MLB? They absolutely are . You realize that “small market” in sports doesn’t refer to the damn MSA size?

Yes it absolutely does refer to the MSA size. What you mean to say is brand not market.

the NBA finals
If you held a gun to my head I couldn't tell you who played in the NBA Finals last year, and I'm not trying to be edgy.

I'd guess the Warriors and maybe the Bucks or Celtics.

Can't wait until the trannies take over basketball, softball, volleyball, ...

"Hey Steve I just got the ratings for the LSU/Iowa game. Only 20,000 people watched"

"First off let me acknowledge my white privilege. Second we cannot have that! We are a woke company! We must inflate those numbers!"

"Well Ok but ESPN is paying us for these numbers and their advertisers are paying for ads based on the numbers and then ESPN is creating contracts based on these numbers. We could get in a lot of trouble."

"I dont care! We must take down the patriarchy!"

You’re making the point that this is the peak of women’s CBB history and not the peak of CFB history.

Is that the point you're trying to make?

I'm making the point that the NCAAW has never been more popular, and a Georgia/Alabama type matchup didn't draw that many people.

Imagine if the game was on a weekend or on a normal cable channel.

I was pointing out that for womens basketball that is a monster number and added context to illustrate that point by comparing it to MLB, NBA, CFP etc.

I can illustrate it the other way too. Last year the womens' elite eight averaged 2.2 mil, the final four 6.5 mil, the semi finals 4.5 mil. The national championship had 9.9 mil

If it was on a Fri or Sat night the numbers would have been lower. It was on ESPN.

EDIT: Why the downvotes? Why do you think that the CBB and CFB national championships are on Monday nights?

The SEC football championship last year was 17.5 million.

Those are wild numbers for women's basketball.

Before that, 11.84 watching Kim Mulkey play for a national championship in 1983, La Tech vs USC.

1986 was 11.22 million, Texas vs USC for the title.

2023 - 9.92 million LSU Iowa for title.

1982 - 8.79 million watched Kim Mulkey and the Lady Techsters win a title

Pat Summit's team finally has Tennessee with 3 games in there. They lost 2 of them, but you know.

How is the WNBA doing?

Don't care. And seemingly neither does anyone else,,, But... womens college sports is popular. Softball will be huge going FW.. especially when OK joins the league. Gymnastics is already a big deal, for those who can compete. And WBB is clearly on fire.

The WCWS and the College World Series both averaged 1.6 mil viewers last year. ESPN moved the Womens Volleyball Championship to ABC it set a record and had 1.8 mil viewers.
