Johnny Jones missed the NIT with a top 10 (in terms of talent) starting 5 in the country including national freshman of the year and unanimous All-American Ben Simmons. I believe 4/5 of the starting 5 made an NBA roster.

I hate this reminder. Simmons, Blakeney, Quarterman, Gray and Sampson all made NBA appearances at some point from that team. That doesnt include Craig Victor or Keith Hornsby who were really good college players too on that team.

It's ridiculous Johnny Jones went 19-14 with that team

I always gave Jones the benefit of the doubt prior to that season, but he really stunk it up that year, given the immense talent of that team. Ben Simmons was really a disappointment, but maybe he doesn't deserve the anger fans vented toward him. The coach failed Ben, and failed that team. The team the following year was LSU's worst with lone exception of Press Maravich's first team.
