People aren't typically making their own decisions and thinking for themself as a new recruit at boot camp. It's more about getting in line and working together in the field, much like football players during the game.

Off the field...think of how many dumb decisions young military dudes make. How many divorces, how many bonuses blown on a flashy car, a night out etc.
