Yep. Before Billy Gillespie, Mark Turgeon, Billy Kennedy, and Buzz Williams, Texas A&M basketball program's only notable coach/leader was Shelby Metcalf, who led it from 1963 until 1990. But in those 26 years he managed to get into the NCAA only 6 times. And that was considered decent. Worse was the 14 years of "dark ages" from 1990 until the arrival of Billy Gillespie in 2004.

Now a days, Aggies fans expect to go Dancing pretty much every year or certainly every other year. The expectations bar has certainly been raised in College Station.

The women's team did very well too since mid-2000s, actually winning one national title. But I fear they should have eased Gary Blair into retirement a couple years early and brought in his assistant Vic Schaefer who instead ended up in Austin after a stint at Miss St-- Vic is an Aggie grad and was the main assistant of Blair.
