Auburn vs Yale in the East regional plays in Spokane.

Clemson vs New Mexico in the West regional plays in Memphis.

Wisconsin vs James Madison in the South regional plays in Brooklyn.

Tennessee versus St. Peters in the Midwest regional plays in Charlotte.

First time?

The regions are named based on the regional rounds, not the openers.

I think at this point they should just call them A, B, C, D or Red, White, Blue, Gold or I, II, III, IV.

When they switched to co-locating 1st and 2nd Round games for multiple regions back whenever, the whole East, South, Midwest, West thing should have gone away if they weren't actually going to pick host cities which work for both areas (like say, St. Louis for a Midwest/South or Charlotte for a East/South early round host).

Look where the Regionals are being played and it'll make sense.

If people fail to show up it will change. Spokane will be interesting to watch. Most fans would prefer to wait until the next round before spending money to travel that far. Not sure what the locals in Spokane will do but I can guarantee you that nobody in Birmingham would show up for a Washington vs Idaho game.

I would prefer that the regional brackets stay within the region but the core problem is that there are more viable host sites East of the Mississippi than to the West. So this arrangement happens to let the Eastern Seaboard and Midwest have more host sites for the opening rounds.
