Were you not taught that the only reason the French sent limited aide to the colonies was that it was an inexpensive means to hurt the British? And that the official French aide didn’t arrive until the war was all but over? That the threat of French armies has more powerful in the war than actual French armies?

France didn’t recognize the colonials as an independent nation until 1778

Napoleon sold the US the Louisiana Purchase because he thought the US was so weak that he could reclaim it my force once he took Europe.

That sending troops and ships at the end of the war was the sole time French helped the US. In the war of 1812 the French sat it out. In the conflict with the Barbary pirates the French stayed home, in the Spanish American war they, like all of Europe sent diplomats not troops. By WWI we were not willing to go to their aid until Britain was threatened, ditto for WWII. We did invade the French colony of indochina (Vietnam) but only after the French withdrawal.

To say France was such an important ally is short sighted at best and a product of a lazy education. Confusing the friend of my enemy as a true friend does not reflect reality. France was Englands enemy and the US used that in the war with England, nothing more nothing less. Remember the French and Indian war was still fresh in most colonists minds and distrust of the French was the norm.

I am glad I avoided the us public school system
