Pass the hat.
Fire the coach.
Let’s start over.
It literally can’t be worse.

"I want to be the #1 three point shooting team in the country" - Dennis Gates

I mean they are top 25 in 3 point attempts, sitting at #17. They are #270 3pt FG %. I think the goal did not match the roster...

2025 goal "I want to be the #1 layup shooting team in the country".

Seriously though...horrific season. I did not like the 3pt shooting goal when he said it last summer, and I do not like it now. Need a big, someone like Alex Oriakhi, need transition points, layups to be made, blocking out, rebounding with two hands, etc. Really basic stuff...which concerns me with a goal like "#1 3pt shooting team in the country". That is not an offense. Gates is young, learning, I think he can turn the corner. going O'fer in conference is horrific, but just a bad roster and overly reliant on the portal two years running.

Corner will be turned...I think you let things play out with Gates (really have no choice anyway with that buyout). Let him mature and be more coach and less friend/players coach. This is the stuff that comes with a young coach. Gotta hold the incoming class together, and turn over as much as possible the existing roster. Keep in mind, his players from Cleveland State were valuable contributors for MIZ last year. He knows how to identify talent.

I'm for giving Gates at least one more season ...

But if they run this horrific scheme in the 2024/2025 season, he needs to be shown the door with haste.

The dribble weave, dribble into the paint ... dribble, dribble, dribble approach of this team is just bad basketball. You watch a team like Butler who doesn't have our resources, 1-3 dribbles, ball movement, open shots and guys who can knock down shots (and layups) ... we run isolation, 4 guys stand around while watching 1 guy try to play 1 on 1 (or on 5) basketball ... basically NBA garbage basketball scheme

Butler would beat our scheme by 20 points ... I wonder if Lavall Jordan would like to coach in the SEC in 2025 ...

And going forward, it's hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel. How many seasons before Mizzou wins half their games?

This whole situation is pretty cut and dry IMO. Last year he was great, this year has been complete dogshit. The $25 million buyout is a problem, so give him next year to see if last year, or this year, is the norm for him. Speaking of Norm.....I miss that guy!

Just to be clear, no one thought we were gonna make the Tourney this year, right?

It took two near half court buzzer beaters to make it last year - And then we lose a 1st rounder and D'Moi. Those two we're our two best offensive and defensive players by a ton. Bates was a good pickup, but wasn't going to move the needle much.

Next year will be better. But better is most likely 15ish wins. I hope Im wrong, I dont see how he doesn't ride with the young guys coming in - which is a terrible decision if so. This class coming in would be better off if it was just 1-3 guys, not 5. I'd rather see 5 Portal players

I sadly agree. No coach who goes winless in conference is going to "build back" to some highly competitive level. Why drag this out?

Lets find that $15MM surplus again and use the hat to move on.

I tuned out early and haven't watched any of this season.
That makes is easier for me to give Gates another shot.

If there isn't significant turn around next year he should be
in trouble but thanks to his buyout will get a 4th year
regardless.

Or, he ain't goin' no where... At this point I still don't know if that is
good or bad.
