re: Why are steroids illegal?

I feel like I grew up in the peak era of anabolic steroid abuse. The Wall was still up and all those crappy Soviet Satellite countries were doping the hell out of their women to get an edge in the Olympics. That East German shot-putter Heidi Kreiger literally turned into a man and went ahead and got a sex change due her system irreparably changing.

I found this old picture of the East German women's 4x100 team. Not the most feminine lot.
