Because it's already factored into their shooting percentage. And either way his own shoooting percentage is worse than the opponents and he took >50% of LSU's FGA.

Let's just look at his first year and assume both teams attempt 50 FG aka offensive rebounding and turnovers are equal

Maravich attempted 52.8% of his teams shots

Maravich points scored .529 * 50 * 2 points per made shot * .423(shooting perecentage)= 22.38 points
Rest of LSU (1-.529) * 50 * 2 * .523 = 24.63 points
total LSU points = 22.38 + 24.63 = 47.01 points

If Maravich had attempted all 50 by himself = 50*2*.423 = 42.3 points

Opponents 50 * 2 * .459 = 45.9 points

If a player is shooting lower than the opponent by percentage, on average every shot he takes is a net loss for his own team

Maravich took over 50% of their shots. And the guy only averaged 5 assists per game for his career

I just figured it out, kid. Some of us in this thread actually watched him play. Others only have read about him.

Funny how such Hall of Fame NBA players continue to sing Pete's praises & why he was voted into the Top 50 players in NBA history. Bob Cousey, James Worthy, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkens, Karl Malone, Jery West, Elgin Baylor, Kevin McHale, etc etc etc have all told stories about Pete's greatness. Former HOF coaches, Rupp, Auerbach, Tommy Heinson, Phil Jackson, etc etc etc have all raved about him. And there is you. As for the records themselves, the NCAA has come out & said they keep 2 sets of records, those relating to female players & those relating to male players. "There is no one record for both sexes".
