I'd pick SC if I did decide to bolt from Louisiana again. The culture fit, access to beach and mountains, low country boils, still very much the deep south, etc, all suits me.

I'm not thrilled that a lot of Yankees are moving there, though.

NC for the longest time has been considered the "half backs" state... Yankees moving to Florida then deciding to move halfway back. Maybe that's what's spilling over into SC.

Its that coupled with real estate prices in Florida but SC is also booming from a jobs POV...the entire state is growing like crazy. Wages are not great but low wages coupled with low cost of living is preferable to no wages and any cost of living I guess....SC is growing like crazy. Long time residents cuss it about as much as long time Texans (anyone who has lived in Texas more than 6 months) do.
