I don’t think he was incompetent at all, he just became familiar and like I said, Alabama fans are so tradition bound when it comes to their radio announcers that they have conniptions if someone moves their cheese. I’ll get flamed but I absolutely believe Paul Kennedy was a vast improvement over John Forney at least how Forney was toward the end, but Forney just lived so large in people’s memories and people associated him with Coach Bryant plus it was part of Perkins’ general housecleaning that got everybody so hot and bothered.

Forney was a shadow of his old self at the end. Having said that, I thought Paul Kennedy sucked arse as an Alabama announcer. He sounded just as delighted when the opponent made a big play as when Alabama did. He didn't have to be an Auburn level homer, but sometimes it was hard to tell which team he was announcer for.
