Unfortunately for Smart, most of his career will be in the 12+ team playoff era. The point of expanding the playoff wasn't to make sure the best team wins but to introduce more opportunity for randomness (injuries, bad bounces, egregious officiating mistakes, etc) so the best team doesn't win quite as often.
