There's a reason UGA administrators have been holding out against selling ale to their fans inside the stadium .... and it's a good reason.

Back when I was a student living off campus the property owner would occasionally stop by to do maintenance. He was a native and loved to talk about wild times from Athens past.

Apparently the whole county ran out of alcohol a few times when Sanford first started hosting night games...told me he had to sell some of his property after it was burned in a riot

Things have certainly changed. I know a man who owns a house about 5 or so blocks from the book store for the sole purpose of hosting gameday parties. He was arrested on his front porch around 1998 or so for public drunk when ACC came around and told him the streets had to be cleared of cars. He told the cops if he wanted it cleared to clear it, he had company in the backyard and none of the cars belonged to any of them. Had a beer in his hand...taken to the ground, handcuffed and drug off to jail. They of course released him almost as soon as they got to the station and never charged him with anything but he missed a helluva party...the people there didn't even know he was gone til he called one of them to come get him from the jail.

Wow, UGA football staffers must have really had wild nights driving around when that happened
