I was taught about slavery, we all were. Do you honestly think anyone here wasn't taught about Slavery? Leftists like you call anything that's not taking a giant dump on America "sugarcoating". Schools in the West have been teaching students to hate their own countries and cultures for far too long. Clueless idiots like you are the end result.
What about slavery were you taught? The economics of it? How did it help fuel an industrial revolution and build Wall Street and did not benefit them? Most want to skip over all of this and have us teach how slavery was a necessary evil. I feel that is dishonest. America is a great nation and is strong enough to stand the truth.

All wars from the beginning of time have been fought for 3 things

Wealth
Power
Resources

North had factories
South had resources

Hard to run factories without resources and the South preferred to trade resources with England and France for better finished good,

As for Kentucky

Abe and Jefferson were both born in KY (not far from each other) and were quite aware of Kentucky as the most strategic state in the conflict. Abe knew this from the start and history says KY was neutral, but that was a lie. They were not allowed to leave.

From a strategic standpoint they were in between the North and the South and lots of military bases to train troops (one of the oldest arm companies - dating back to the Revolutionary War) was located about where the US Army Depot sits today near Richmond. Privately held till a decade or so ago before being "acquired" by a private in PA.

They were also the GLOBAL epicenter of hemp (important for canvas and rope) so a key component of goods and most important in the "Age of Sail"

They were the leading producer of horse and mules in the USA (still are today) which very important to armies before fossil fuel

One of the most fertile timber and coal states when both were important to fight war

Tobacco and Booze of course to keep troops happy

FWIW: While a "forced" neutral by Abe, they were disposed just the same as the Confederate states and most of the poverty in EKY is tied to the 2 - 4 families in NY and PA who used the Civil War to acquire the land for "free". The drug raping of the state is just a repeat a century or so later of the raping KY took on its resources from the Civil War.
