The kids love Kiffins persona more than they love X's and O's, and they have known Kiffins name their entire lives.

Meanwhile a lot of our players didn't know who DeBoer was until this year.

Kiffin would have made TRob his first call because he knows how the game is played in the south, and probably would have known how critical he was to hold the roster together.

Anyone second guessing not going the Kiffin route, or is everyone so impressed with DeBeor that it's worth it to burn the roster down and start over with him at the helm ?

Yes, Downs was going to turn down $2mil/year to play for Kiffin.

No. I think the attrition we're seeing now is due solely to money being offered to the players.

In my opinion, if a player is told he can make $100,000 more by transferring, 99.9% of them aren't going to stay because Kiffin is their new head coach.

I asked the same question about if we landed Lanning. Especially being a defensive coach.

So why don’t they transfer to OM if they love the guy so much.

OM checks are bouncing.

If that was the case they would have transferred to Ole Colonel Reb and played for Kiffy

I will say again, Mike Leach has a better chance than Lane Kiffin of ever, EVER, in this or any known solar system, being head football coach of the University of Alabama. And he’s dead

With exception of beating LSU last year, Kiffin has yet to win meaningful game at Ole Miss. I think he’s a great coach, but he still has a little way to go.

Let's say...

- DeBoer is a straight X&O guy and wins everywhere he has been.

- Kiffin has the name and excitement and has not won everywhere he has been and has been fired A LOT.

Why would we sale this program short and go for "excitement and fired a lot " over a "straight X&O coach who has won"

I still think a lot of folks are looking very short term and not at the potential we have long term.

Honestly yes. Right now if we are being truthful, its all bad news. We need a W right now but I wouldnt expect much news for the next week or so.
However, things will start to fall our way soon enough. Especially if the Michigan job opens up and Brian Kelly takes it that means 2 more schools have players that are eligible to transfer. We can do a little raiding ourselves. We are in a bad spot as we are a big program with elite athletes that people want badly. It was inevitable really. Lets hope we can do the same

More players would have stayed for Kiffin, yes. That doesn’t mean Kiffin would have been a better hire. I wanted Kiffin for the fun and what I think would have been a better for short term. But by no means do I 100% think he’d have been the best hire.

I think we’ll look back, after what we’ve observed, and realize losing your coach at a program like this really is a mini death penalty.

It’s sure as shite a dire enough situation that there should be a relentlessly hammered out plan for when the day comes.

How is there not a core group of players in the know about what’s coming? Sit them down, guage where they’re at, pay them to toe the line and be all around WAY more together than whatever the shite Alabama did.

You can’t have players in this age find out from random sources.

Alabama’s new coaching search was impressive as hell and it STILL felt like chaos, and it’s getting worse.

Players are paid. There isn’t a more important time to pay them then when you’re trying to slow the collapse of your entire roster.

I’m starting to think there will be an entire industry pop up around the exit planning of a coach and how to keep it from being cool for your whole roster to bounce.

Nothing is stopping you from becoming an Ole Miss fan. Your pouting wont change anything. Are you even a Bama alum?

I was at UA for part of the time when Kiffin was the offensive coordinator and he was a joke on campus. No one liked his persona. Nothing makes kids feel more secondhand embarrassment than a middle-aged person always trying to act like a frat boy.

His recruiting classes also don't suggest that he has some tremendous appeal to young people. The only people I ever see saying Kiffin appeals are at an age where they aren't really in a position to say what kids like.

Besides, Kiffin just lost his best player to the portal.

If Lane is as good of a recruiter as he is at pulling y'all into these conversations that he should be Bama's coach I'm thinking maybe we should have went with him . N'all I won't fall for it Lane,no matter how many threads you make, you are going to have to get out of Oxford some other way, it won't be through T-Town .

Doesn’t matter that’s not what happened. Kiffin was never getting that job and Trob was offered every opportunity to stay and he declined.
