Yep, Downs made a business decision out of high school and he’s making one now. He did not come to Alabama because he really loved the strip and all of the lore of bear bryant

It really is as simple as this. They are not fans. They are employees. When another company offers more money with better opportunities a vast majority of people would jump. That’s ok. We will be fine. We aren’t Arkansas. We have too much tradition built over a hundred years to get upset over a 19 year olds decision

It is exactly what Saban sales to these kids when he’s recruiting them. It’s what he preaches when they are at bama.

Employment contracts, especially those in highly specialized fields, frequently include non-compete clauses. These aren't people working at fricking Wendy's leaving to work at McDonald's for an extra $2 an hour. I know that all of the athlete empowerment types desperately want these guys to be able to do whatever they want without repercussions because they have somehow earned that right, but that's just not how actual employment works at this level. You can't treat a high stakes job in a multi-billion dollar industry like it's unskilled labor. Companies that pour a ton of time and resources into training and developing a highly skilled workforce tend to not just let them wander on over to a direct competitor without penalty.
