I’ve wondered about this as well. Has it been set that the playoff games will be played at home stadiums or are they incorporating some of the bowl games into the 12 team playoff? Like the first round is something like the Liberty Bowl and if you win that you go to the Peach Bowl and so on?

Here’s a good blog post that details some of my thoughts on these questions:

12 Team CFB Playoff is Too Stupid To Be Allowed to Live

quote:

When asked about fans traveling to multiple sites to watch their teams, BOB BOWLSBY answered: Well, I would suggest that there’s a pretty good alternative right in your living room if you don’t want to travel to the games. I’m sure we have some people that travel three weeks in a row, but the majority pick and choose.

Translated: They don’t give a frick about the fans. Oh, wait. they do. They care about the fans who can afford to travel for three consecutive games, buy tickets, pay for hotels, and take time off work. That’s probably not you, is it?

quote:

I cannot emphasize that they DO NOT GIVE A frick ABOUT YOU any more than the statement coming out of Bob Bowlsby’s mouth. There are giant bags of cash waiting to be transported to the bank after this playoff format gets rolling. They’re not going to cut their bowl buddies in blazers out of the deal.

They know this format will destroy college football as we know it. It will likely destroy the bowls. If they don’t include them, the bowls will die, but they’ll still encounter their blazer-wearing buddies at country clubs somewhere and they want to not only look them in the eye, but clink glasses of whatever expensive shite they’re drinking when they see them.

quote:

Q. You could be asking your championship teams to go to four consecutive neutral-site games counting their conference title game. In general, why the lack of embrace of trying to play as many games on the sport’s great home campuses as opposed to these neutral-site NFL stadiums somewhere?

A: I’m not sure that playing in East Lansing, Michigan, on January 7th is a really good idea.

It’s not a good idea for whom? For the college football playoff committee members? For college presidents who’d rather take vacations to warm places on the university’s dime? For your bowl buddies?

Michigan State fans wouldn’t care. They’d go. They’d enjoy the hell out of it. This is true for ANY CAMPUS IN THE NATION.
