What you're thinking he is and what he's saying he is are two different things.
The last thing that dude is gonna do is hang around and tell someone else how to run his program. And the other dude is a successful football coach. He's not gonna run to Saban every time something goes wrong and ask how can I fix it? If he's really a homerun higher, he doesn't need to do that.

No coach can meet the expectations that the Updykes have, consistent championships and 0 or 1 loss seasons every year. It's not happening. NIL has created parity across the country with non-SEC teams being able to compete., Texas and Oklahoma will present new challenges, and once the playoff field expands no matter how good you are the chances of making it through unscathed are slim.
It's why Saban left, he couldn't stand the thought of being a 9-3 coach after his 17 years of unprecedented success. College football is completely different than it was 20 years ago.

The real question is how well this arrangement where this undefined mentor/advisor works when rubber hits the road. A lot of people say that coaches taking over for a legend just need to keep the sports car between the lines and out of the ditch. To extend the metaphor: the problem with that logic is the next coach doesn't know what all the buttons and levers do in the cockpit nor the driving characteristics of the car.
If Saban is mostly just telling DeBoer the information he needs to make existing recruiting operations work, detailing the analyst system, providing insights on future opponents, etc then I think everything will be fine. If Saban is on the practice field trying to coach the defensive backs like the GTA role he jokes he played at practice when he was the HC, thats the slippery slope. He probably needs all his interactions with the team to be DeBoer-only. DeBoer needs to be the guy in charge and Saban's mentorship just something DeBoer takes under advisement.
Can Saban do that? He was one of the best to do it, so maybe he's one of the rarities who can pull off this role. Barry Alvarez made it work for a while but eventually the HCs he hired felt chaffed by his mentorship. They wanted to run their offense, not his 1990s Big Ten zone run and zone defense approach.

If I'm being 100% honest, I would much rather Saban hover around the program and cause a power struggle.
However, I think you're wrong and he won't do that. I think he understands how detrimental it would be, unlike you.

The amount of coping going on is crazy. Saban isn’t going to keep busting arse for bama. When you retire from a job you say frick that job. You don’t buy a multimillion dollar house in Florida to not use it and stay in frickin Alabama. Guy has $100,000,000. He doesn’t care about y’all that much.

BK has a better record here through 27 games than Saban did
He’s also doing way better here through 2 years than than he did at Notre Dame.
