What Bama did over the last 2 decades just doesn’t go away. The trophies, NFL players, facilities, Heisman winners and national recruiting pipelines don’t just vanish.

Saban helped build Alabama into THE brand in CFB. It was always near the top but now it’s at the tippity top with a large gap. That doesn’t go away. Btw I’m talking brand recognition.

Ohio State before Urban was always good but they did not recruit nationally like they do now. They didn’t get SEC caliber skill players and linemen. Now they still do even after Urban left.

We’ll have to royally screw things up to fall off again. We won’t win 6 natties in 12 years of course but we can still compete at the highest level. Year 1 is going to be important imo.

Moving on from Saban to the reigning coach of the year isn’t a bad start.

We made a lot questionable hires after Bryant

Ray Perkins - Was was the head coach of the Giants when we hired him with a 23 and 34 record. Didn’t have any college head coaching experience.

Bill Curry - Had a head coaching record of 34 and 41 at Georgia Tech when we hired him

Gene Stallings - Ended up being a great hire but before he was hired here he had went 27 and 45 at TAMU

Mike Dubose - Didn't have any head coaching experience when we hired him

Dennis Franchione - had a 63 and 46 record when we hired him between New Mexico and TCU

Mike Price - Had an 82 and 78 record at his 13 years at Washington State when we hired him

Mike Shula - Didn't have any head coaching experience when we hired him

We knocked it out of the park with Deboer compared to all of these hires imo. DeBoer’s head coaching record is 104 and 12, he’s won big everywhere he’s been, and none of those places had close to the resources and fan support that Alabama does.

Every real Bama fan I know is ecstatic about the hires.

Next fall will be my first fall semester to experience football as an actual student at the University of Alabama and I was anticipating that it would be under Saban (first day of classes this past week was a gut punch lmao) but I’m honestly looking forward to seeing what DeBoer does, and I’m actually surprised at how lowkey excited I am about it. Maybe it’s just my weird coping mechanism for Saban leaving, being too in denial that everything is “over” after being spoiled rotten. By that same token, I understand the frustration of some fans, and it’s valid — the GOAT is retiring, those days are over now, but I also can’t discount how much potential is on the table right now, in spite of the sucky circumstances of players leaving, etc.
anyway, I’ll probably go back to lurking full time soon, but for years now this forum was just a fun place to read. lol full disclosure: it was me, my brother and a few other kids involved in the making of this account years ago now that I think about it, I bet that 100% goes against the terms and conditions that we absolutely did not read or care about (ban me now, LMAO) Best memory was my sister logging on and leaving a comment and being told by an LSU fan she needed to grow up and be a real man. Truly goes to show that you never know who you’re talking to online.

How these guys aren’t even giving Debeor Spring Practice before deciding to leave is mind blowing

Vultures are circling. Teams are offering these 18-20 yr old kids massive bags of money and talking down our hire, probably promising PT also. They’re young and dumb and emotional and people are whispering in their ears. If it’s because Saban is gone, they weren’t bought in to Bama in the first place, but I kind of understand. They went from the GOAT to somebody they barely had heard of.

jryanw should let his three-year-old post. I am sure his comments will make more sense.

That isn't why he was fired. He was fired because he stayed out drinking all night, and the day of the semifinals he needed an IV to sober up

Honestly if you’re looking to get maximum return as a player you enter the portal now - very little competition out there so teams will overbid. If you wait until after spring there will be a lot more options for the schools. The current setup sucks for us.

Washington has some really good players in the portal I’d love to have at Alabama. Wouldn’t mind having the top few guys in their recruiting class either.

LOIC and probation penalties are designed to negatively effect recruiting.

Yeah thats a good point, a couple of the hires were made when we were under NCAA investigation or under sanctions.

I thought Shula did a good job considering when he took over and what he left Saban with.

All correct, it’s the world of college football now. But there has to be some correction and some rules and boundaries set that will the pass Supreme Court and free trade muster. It’s a free for all right now. You can’t sustain this model or better to say the lack of one.

The national recruiting phenomenon isn’t really Urban. It’s the rise of social media and national recruiting budgets. Coaches can get tape on a wider basis instead of having to rely on what’s mailed in

Josh Jacobs in 2007 goes undiscovered. In the mid 2010’s everyone knew who he was the week his tape blew up before signing day

Looks like Muhammad was leaning Oregon and now is shifting Bama. Good news.

Kane can recruit for the offensive side as well...Caullin Lacy is a bad boy! He transfered to Louisville if I'm not mistaken.

Are people seriously trying to paint this as a BBQ buddies hire? They worked together for 1 season 4 years ago and this guy is a fricking successful FBS HC leaving that position to come work for someone else. This isn't exactly Dabo hiring a former player or an old teammate.
