I suspect there may be growing pains and some adjustment for the staff and players next season.

Think about it, an entirely new offense and defense scheme with new coaches. I hate to say it but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bama lose a game or two next Fall.

And we have a segment of our fan base that will go completely nuts when it happens and start screaming that the entire staff needs to be fired.

I hope those people will be in the extreme minority.

The minority is loud vocal type on message boards. But they really don't matter. The administration isn't making decisions based on these people.

Hell plenty of them wanted saban gone multiple times over the years. They are idiots

I was born in 86. My whole life, I’ve heard stories of how much the fans holding Perkins and Curry to the Bear standard held us back, really all the way til Saban came in and completely restored the program from the foundation up. I’m sure I’m not the only millennial here who had a similar upbringing.

That, combined with the last decade+ of people (our own people) saying “I feel bad for the guy who’s gotta replace him” makes me optimistic that the majority of the fan base is self aware and will be reasonable and patient.

There are people who post on BOL who literally whined every time something bad happened under Saban. They literally never stopped talking and realized how great our program is.

Even with some transfers dude is going to have a stacked roster and all the support and facilities he could possibly need. I don't expect him to win the SEC or the NC the first year by any means, but he needs to win.

I mean he just sat down at a table and got dealt a really good hand.

So you already know which players are transferring and which ones are staying? Who's signing and who's decommitting? Can you fill the rest of us in?

I’m consistently realistic or pessimistic when it comes to Alabama football, and I’m extremely excited and extremely hopeful about this guy. I think this is a home run hire. Seems like a hard working guy that loves football. His emotional talk about his former players sold him for me. I’m all in, and if it takes a season to get the whole thing in place that’s fine, but based on CKD’s track record I suspect he will be ahead of schedule.

No, but I can guarantee most of them stay and he will be walking into a better situation than just about any other newly hired coach in the SEC does.

Just get us to 9-3 or better this year and I’ll be completely satisfied.

Maybe 8-4 if we see some difficult attrition.

The talent is there for 11-1, SEC Championship and playoff appearance.

9-3 would be a massive disappointment.

Tenner is breaking in a new qb.
Oct. 26 Missouri W
Missouri is losing a lot.
Nov. 9 at LSU W
Defense better be a lot better. New qb and receivers.
Nov. 16 Mercer W
Gimme
Nov. 23 at Oklahoma W
New qb
Nov. 30 Auburn W
Barn sucks arse. I doubt Peyton Thorne morphs into Cam Newton in T-town.

BAMA's toughest road game is looking like Wisconsin right now.

Why isn't this realistic, provided DeBoer can hold the team together??

Cautious optimism would be a good mindset for you and other Bammers that are expecting a new coach to walk through our 2024 schedule with 1 loss.

Let’s give the guy a little leeway.

What?!

@ Wisconsin
@ Vandy
@ Tennessee
@ LSU
@ Oklahoma

Wisconsin is our 2nd easiest road game, lol.

Tennessee (17th), LSU (12th), and Oklahoma (15th) were all Top 20 teams at year end.

Amarilla Tide is exactly right. I was born in 1940 and attended Alabama between 1958 and 1964 and there have only been two big mistakes made in hiring coaches at Alabama in my life time. They were both made when the president of the University either did not care about or did not understand the importance of Alabama football. They were when they hired Ears Whitworth instead of Bryant in the late 1950's and Bill Curry instead of Bobby Bowden after Perkins resigned. Hiring Coach DeBoer is no mistake.

I think we lose in a close one to UGA. TN usually finds ways to show up and make that a struggle for us, even throughout the Saban years there were some really close ones. I think that one might be tough, LSU will always be annoying as well. And Auburn can lose every game of their season and still find a way to come out and frick us up in the Iron Bowl.

All that to say, I go back and forth, but I think it could be a 10-2 type year, but there might even be a frustrating unexpected stupid loss in the mix that gives us a 9-3 regular season. Idk.

I think the "tough schedule" thing is overblown, really. It isn't too far off the SEC schedules from 2008-2010 whenever Arkansas had a top 15 program, LSU was top 5, Georgia/Florida rotated on the schedule in succession (and both were actually good), etc.

My point being if the team is good, we'll win a lot of games and if we're not good, we'll win fewer. This is the case regardless of schedule

This isn't a rebuild job where the old coach was fired for not getting the job done.

Priority 1 is holding off the poachers out there coming after Downs and other key players. These players need to realize the new guy was literally just in the national title game. It's the University of Alabama, not the University of Saban.

Tell Kirby to go F himself and you'll see him in September on the other sidelines.
