1983: 8-4 (below average results for Bama; no SEC title)
1984: 5-6 (uh-oh cracks forming)
1985: 9-2-1 (ship gets slightly righted but still average results for Bama; no SEC title)
Past performance does not guarantee future results but thats how things went down.

Bear Bryant went 8-4 his final season, and 9-2-1 the season before that (which was good enough to win the SEC that year).
DeBoer is not stepping into the same scenario.

And yet, Auburn would take that record over Freeze’s 1st 3 years in a heartbeat right now.

This is the 2nd time you have been caught just today spreading misinformation (i.e. lies).
Georgia won the SEC in 1981 and represented the SEC at the Sugar Bowl.

Four of Auburn’s last seven coaches had a losing record their first year at Auburn. Pat Dye and Tommy Turberville each started off 5-6. Bryan Harsin and Hugh Freeze each started 6-7. Shug Jordan didn’t have a winning season until his third year at Auburn.
There are always growing pains with new coaches. But Deboer won’t pull an Auburn and have a losing record next year.

With the machine Saban has built at Bama, I could coach 3 years before the wheels come off. I'm sure Deboner will be just fine.

The coach who followed the Bear was Ray Perkins and he had coached the NY Giants before and the TB Bucks after. That man won a superbowl as a player with the Colts and had played for the Bear.

How are you making Bama "better"? Hypocrite.

To put into perspective the gap between Alabama and Auburn football, Auburn needs to go 16-0 the next 41 seasons in a row to equal Alabama’s current all time winning percentage.

OP, you're the one who started the thread. I'm just giving you a mirror.

And he was a crappy college coach who could t get along with a glass of water.

This used to the case i.e. Terry Bowden inheriting Pat Dye's players. But with the transfer portal most of Saban's guys will be gone in the next 18 months. Its not out of the realm that Bama will have less talent in 2024 that they had in 2023.

Past performance does not guarantee future results but thats how things went down.
So we are not guaranteed to decline based on the past of the original GOAT retiring. Great to know.
