may not be someone better than they could actually get, but there are lots of better options.
Sark, Lanning, Norvell, Kirby are all better and these are ones they went after.
Outside of that, coaches they didn't seem to go after I think Kiffin is better. I would not trade Kelly for DeBoer in a million years honestly. Ryan Day, Harbaugh, the list goes on for a while of better coaches.
But realistically, they weren't getting anyone better except maybe Kiffin, but he is a wild card on his own. This hire is very much a wild card as well. Guy has very little head coaching experience.

Honestly think DeBoer is a great hire and will do very well at Bama unless he refuses to try to make relationships in the SEC footprint like Harsin bizarrely did.

Except for Kirby, we got as good of a HC we could have possibly gotten. I'm happy for now. Ask me again in 3 years.

Sarkisian would have been better but anybody that ever thought that was a reasonable option were either kidding themselves or stupid.

Lanning, Sark, Norvell

Very impressive job by the Bama AD
Took him 3-4 tries but he got DeBoer

Alabama just lost the greatest coach of all time. There is no replacing that. They will not be the same Bama

Love the one you’re with.

Maybe Lanning and company are underachievers… Seems that DeBoer has a history of doing more with less. Recruiting matters, but winning matters more.

Kiffin, Dabo, Smart, Sark,

Both have plenty of recruiting ties to the south and also coached in Tuscaloosa.
Sark knows what it takes to win in the SEC

No one.
But resume doesn't guarantee success.
Most on here pointed to the other tree limbs from Saban's trunk and laughed at firing a guy who averaged ten wins a season for Kirby.
You can know he's a good coach, but impossible to know how good he'll be beyond that based on resume.
If does what Gene Stallings did in his first five seasons, half the Bama fanbase will likely think he should do better.
It's a rough place. He'll be okay though. If he's let go, he'll win enough there to have many good places to choose from next.
It's a really good hire, but man the expectations.

Probably not but what a ride!
I have enough time left, I may get to see a third Bama dynasty! Ya never know.

Any of the four guys that rejected them (Kiffin, Sark, Lanning, Norvell)
Norvell was not offered. You found out today Norvell was staying because DeBoer said yes. This will come out eventually. Kiffin was not offered in spite of the fake A.I. audio on Twitter.
Sark and Lanning, maybe so. But how did their teams do vs DeBoer?

Dude, Sir William Napier, Duke of Sunbelt would have been a transformative hire for the Oliphants of the Red Tide. I beg of thy selection committee to reconsider in due haste.

It's funny that you didn't mention Brian Kelly off the top of your head. You don't think he is a good coach? The Alabama AD didn't either.
