That's great kirk. The issue is that the last 9 years who is "better" didn't matter compared to who deserved it most based on resume. Now in the last year of this format, "better" does matter and resume doesn't.

That's why people are annoyed.

When you claim resume didn't matter this year, it sounds like a 9-3 team made the Playoffs. Resume mattered. FSU was undefeated. Bama had 1 loss. Bama had a better SOS, and hadn't lost the heart and soul of their team to injury. Record matters to an extent... otherwise why does Texas not get any shade? Why is Liberty not in?

It's not only record. It's a combination of record, and many other factors.

SOS of Unbeaten Teams Left Out of Playoffs

2020 Cincinnati-50th
2017 UCF-54th
2023 FSU-55th
2018 UCF-65th
2016 WMU-75th
2023 Liberty-88th

Looks consistent to me

Which is why he says in his tweet that if people want “most deserving” to be the real standard, they should demand that the conference commissioners force the committee to change the standard.

I would also say that it’s hard to compare this year to previous years in the playoff era because we’ve never had a year where there basically six teams in contention for a playoff spot after conference championship weekend. Most years it’s either simply clear who the 4 best are or it comes down to two one-loss teams for the final spot.

The Alabama team week 2-3 would never have gotten in, they are a different team, for the better, and proved it by winning out and beating Georgia. The FSU team prior to losing their QB would have been in, they are not the same team now, for the worse, as demonstrated by having 55 total passing yards against Louisville. The idea of taking major injuries that substantially change a team into account is written very specifically into the selection criteria that everybody agreed to.

You don't believe for one second that current FSU could beat anybody in the CFP but want them in anyway. Besides all that, all you had to do was to beat us to get in and now you're just channeling your upset about that into crusading for a handicapped FSU team.

FSU’s resume did not stack up to the others.

Better still doesn't matter completely or UGA would be one of the top four. I would like the committee to vote for and select the most compelling matchups. Make excitement the criteria. No one wants to see FSU's third string QB.

Well Alabama has a better resume due to sos and is better period. I still don’t see the problem. FSU best win was LSu. That’s it. Their combined opponents record is well below .500. It’s not really close.

Literally played Arkansas right before Auburn just 2 years ago.

Arkansas actually finished ranked that year unlike LSU, but don’t let that stop you from lying

Well it doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. Bama is/was clearly better and they had a better resume in my opinion based off strength of schedule and quality wins. Bama was a Conference Champ, lost 1 game to another top tier team and had the best win by far as opposed to FSU, heck you can go two deep with the win vs Ole Miss as well.

People just see “undefeated” and throw analytics out the window, especially since it has the Bama hater element factored in as well. But Liberty went undefeated too…that nullifies that argument. Thank goodness the Playoff Committee dug deeper than “undefeated”.
