"For purposes of any four-team playoff, the process will inevitably need to select the four best teams from among several with legitimate claims to participate."

"The selection committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
Conference championships won,
Strength of schedule,
Head-to-head competition,
Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance."

CFP Selection Committee protocol

(Adopted unanimously by the BCS Group June 20, 2012)

Every one of the potential playoff participants agreed to these criteria...why complain and threaten to file suit, when they are applied? There will be no suits filed because The Playoff Committee did their job within the rules and procedures established by the member institutions.

If FSU has anyone to blame, it is their own Conference Commissioner, who led the charge against expansion of the playoffs.

can we please move on
It's over, no one cares

with the 12 team playoff they need to remove that one line because no one is bumping FSU to #13 despite losing Travis under the new playoffs

So are they admitting they use that criteria for the “four best” and then use conference championships for 5+? Because that’s what they did.

They also admitted that the Louisville game was a big part of their decision, despite the fact that FSU's second string quarterback would've been back by the time the playoff started.

No mention of an evaluation of Alabama based on the South Florida game though.

We all get they want the 4 best teams in. You could make an argument that Oregon or Ohio State is deserving of the final spot. Oregon lost twice to the #2 team by 3 points each game. That sounds extremely even to me. Plus Bo Nix is pretty damn good.

Florida State also has a valid argument. Their 3rd string qb won’t be playing in the playoff and their second string qb came back from double digit deficit to win the game when Jordan went down.

Alabama is hinging their playoff spot because they beat Georgia. Georgia’s cupcake schedule leaves much to be desired. Georgia’s best win was against Ole Miss, a team that needed a PI no call on the last play of the game to beat LSU at home. Missouri is actually not as good as Ole Miss. And LSU for sure is not a top 10 team with that defense. Overall it was a down year for SEC teams altogether.

This may be hard for some of you to believe but I’m actually pulling for Texas or Alabama to win it all. The ONLY reason I’m doing this is because I have close friends that are fans of the schools and at the end of the day your friends and family are all you’ve got so we stick together and celebrate together.

Anyhow, here we are with what we have and bama gets the chance to prove themselves yet again so let’s see what happens on the field. If bama loses, then maybe you guys ought to shut up for a while. If you win, then carry on and be your obnoxious hillbilly selves

With the 12 team playoff this will become moot as there will be an objective measure any team can achieve to get in, which will be one of the top 5 conference champions.

Before this, I think this was the biggest problem the committee had. There was no objective criteria to qualify. They could have had a points system or something. For example, 100 points for each win, 200 for each top 25 win (in final poll), 250 for each top 10 win, 500 for winning your conference. Then after its all said and done, add them up and see what you get. If there's a tie, then do your best to break down the two such as head to head, etc. Then there's no debate. It is what it is.

Instead you have this mess.

But this one is the worst because they had to sucker punch an undefeated P5 champion FSU to get in.

And it was a new low for Saban because he ambulance chased Jordan Travis.

The Gumps are now going to an "Invitational" comparable to the NIT.

But they didn't put in a team in that didn't win a conference championship?

It is actually getting quite amusing when you see their dumber than dirt retorts that hold no water.

But aside from this, I have several friends who follow a variety of top tier programs that are all really pissed off at how bad this was for college football in general. Integrity Be Damned...

We all know the answer to this. As long as ESPN is run by quacks it’s rinse and repeat
