I know nothing about how the portal works.
That said, the timing seems kind of messed up. You have to declare for the portal and go after kids before anyone knows who’s going in the draft. If Beck declares would BVG have left? If both are gone we’re kind of screwed even though we have tons of young talent. Do you really want a 1 and done QB?
How in the hell do you manage a roster when you don’t know what holes you may have to people leaving for the draft?

Beck will announce if he's going pro long before the bowl. Most say we will know in next couple of days.

This transfer portal window starts today and is open for 30 days, ending on Jan 2nd. There is also a window in May, that’s only 15 days.
There will be a lot that happens in the next two weeks, because there is a dead period starting Dec 18 for early signing.
Yes, it does suck for teams. They now have to basically recruit kids to stay, normal recruiting, then recruit portal kids….
