Oh man, seeing the stadium like that really takes me back

My memories as a student and the stadium go back far before the Dixieland Delight timeline. The stadium was lower bowl only. I think the capacity was 68,000. The "seats" were alternating sections of red or white fiberglass caps over bench seats. The red cap paint was sun damaged such that on a hot sweaty day, the red paint would stain your pants, particularly on the sun facing east side of the stadium. And the playing surface was an awful turf that had been there long enough that the blades were tilted toward the sideline from the water runoff of the field crown. When the field was wet, cutting toward the sideline had great traction, cutting back toward the middle of the field was like running on wet ice. If you went down going up hill toward the crown, you spent Saturday night and Sunday picking turf blades out of the turf burns where you had exposed skin. Coach Bryant had the team on what is now the visitor's sideline so the players were facing the camera. He wanted the Mommas and Daddies to be able to see the players faces on TV.

I like the Dixieland Delight tradition far better than picking turf blades out of your skin.
