No the team was a work in progress with talent at QB which hadn't been developed by the previous OC.
The new OC (which I was highly critical of) came in, developed the players and took instruction to change the playbook to match the talent and maximize what they can do. The talent responded well to the coaching.

This was sarcasm
The other was the truth. The team was a mess. Idk if I've seen a Nick Saban coached team that big of a mess. The offensive line had no idea what they were doing. Which was my biggest concern. I thought Milroe would come around he just needed more experience.
It's ok to say things were a mess. In the end the coaches got things figured out and on the right track. Which is what they are paid to do.
