Kirby is a great coach no doubt in part due to his experience gained under Nick Saban.
Mark Richt made his philosophy regarding discipline well known. Richt rationalized excessive penalties as a trade-off in motivating his players to play aggressive/wide-open.
I disagreed with this philosophy during Richt's tenure and felt that it was his greatest weakness.
I equate it to parenting to some extent: lack of discipline is the easy way out because it means you don't have to engage in those tough confrontations that instill discipline.
Kirby is quick to engage in those confrontations as teaching opportunities and it shows in the high quality of our teams.

All day, this. Most people eschew the responsibility of discipline because it is extra work or very uncomfortable for them. You can extrapolate this to any position of authority. Standards must be set and met, and any failure in that system must be viewed as a teachable moment. Eventually, the process becomes mechanical in nature, running on autopilot, and simply needs slight maintenance from time to time.

Discipline = success.
