What made Milroe run as much as he did Saturday?

You can’t deny that Milroe played completely different than he has all season.

He was not only running intentionally, but looking for contact on a few runs.

Did he finally come to realization that he’s going to have to be that guy for us, or we’re we hiding that part of our offense all season?

It was coach's plan to save him for now

Designed Qb runs for the most part. Although he did scramble away from pressure and take off a few times. The last TD was one of those times I believe when he scrambled left, faked a throw in the flats, and sprinted in the end zone from around 20 yards out

Lots of designed runs and stepping up in the pocket was clearly a point of emphasis for the bye.

No way I can believe this. Maybe if we had been steamrolling everyone. But Tennessee, A&M..several games this year we were in a precarious position at times. Hard for me to believe they were “saving” anything. I think it’s more likely they saw something on film they could exploit and LSU never adjusted.

I partly agree but we could have thrown this out earlier and possibly not have lost to UT. But it was like the playbook was finally used.

There were several times against Texas later in the game that he could have run and we are talking the field was so open It wasn’t even funny, but he wouldn’t takeoff and got sacked. I think that part was coaching, he was being drilled about staying in and finding a throw. He made some good throws against LSU but everyone now knows he can run like the wind blows. That touchdown where he faked the flats and turned the jets on for 20 yards was insanely fast.

They were working with him the past 2 weeks to get him to step up in the pocket and be little more decisive. It Just run when there's nothing open. This caught LSU off guard because of his reptuation of holding on to the ball too long. So I think the coaches was smart to hold him back a litle until now.

If that’s true then this offense just got legit. He’s gonna add a whole element to defend.

LSU’s defense may suck, but there has been plenty of times where he could have ran for 20+ yards in every game.

Got to give the coaches some credit for teaching him to step up in the pocket, and quit fading out the back and running to the right. He did something that Hurts never did at Alabama. I dont remember him backing out of the pocket and running right a single time.

(1) From reading stuff and talking to people who know what they are talking about, the pulled hammy stuff the week of the A&M game was not a made up rumor. It wasn't severe, but it was definitely there and it made them much more cautious in using him in the run game (and I'd assume in him escaping the pocket).

(2) That got fully better and the staff focused on both his mindset and the playcalling to make his legs a factor moving forward. As you said, LSU's defense sucks, but there have been open running lanes on pass plays all year. Saturday was the first time he aggressively pushed the open gaps.......and if he gets going int the open field then he is liable to make any defense look stupid.

We will see this weekend, but if he's now fully ready to take off when the opportunity is there, our offense becomes pretty frickin terrifying.

this is true, but he didn't have to be breaking 30 yards for that to be a nightmare to defend. Let me ask you, is it better for milroe to take off if there is nothing open and get 4-10 yards on the regular, or stand back there and get sacked for a loss of 8 every time? Everybody has to plan for this now, gonna make our lives easier on offense

Yea I'd argue that the scrambling windows have been huge all year. He had wide open lanes to run 6-7 times against Texas. Similar against Ole Miss and Arkansas. When those are open to him it's an automatic 15+ yard gain if he puts his foot in the ground.

The only game I remember win which he truly just didn't have any lanes to run was Texas A&M.

Yeah, I've been as critical as anyone about Milroe, but IF he continues to use his legs at the right times, this offense can be effective. It's not going to be the high flying offenses of the Tua, Mac, Bryce years, but it doesn't have to be. He also hit some short passes and dump offs. LSU's defense sucks, but it's been more about his lack of recognition of what's available that has bothered me. It definitely looks like they spent a lot of time teaching and tailoring the offense the last two weeks.

The two passes he hit to Jase and Jam for huge gains were a super positive indicator going forward.

Yes. Saban said in his press conference that we did put in some more designed runs, but that the key was that we have been working with Jalen to step up in the pocket more, which has given him better run or pass options as well as relieved some pressure on the tackles who can focus on pushing pass rushers out and back.
