What a fricking child.

At this point, he's rear view mirror material and probably doing the team and Oats a favor by moving on. Next up. Personally, With Reid coming in next year and now Youngblood, Im cool with his exit. I always really liked the guy, but just weird how he wants to burn these bridges.

He is definitely planting strange red flags for all future teams to see.

What video is everyone referencing? The only thing I saw was Mo calling him a punkass on live.

I was a big Rylan fan, but he got real angry at Oats a couple of times late season, once, I think it was Arkansas game, when Oats pulled him from the game. We were there and were really shocked at seeing Rylan so angry. Players held him back. A friend was at all the tournament games and said same thing happened there one game. Maybe he is just real emotional.

I am assuming since no one has portalled out lately we wont have anymore? Are they shopping around before they enter the portal. I assume once you portal out then the coaches for Bama are done with you, unless you are a mega stud who they want to keep.

Who do you think Griff compares to in the NBA, past or present?

I don't think about who he compares to in the NBA. I think he's going to get paid because he's an elite defender of other college level players. A very small percentage of players ever make it to the NBA.
I'm not sure why you're so dead set on a player's NBA status having anything to do with a player's ability to earn a fat check in college or being elite AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL. You can be elite in college and be a mediocre NBA player. There are tons examples.

Griffen actually had the worst defensive rating on the team.

Defensive rating is a team stat.

Ok. So the numbers are correct. He's the worst defender on the team. Got it.

He's going to transfer to a contender and get a bigger check because he's the worst defender on BAMA's team. OK.

A team will be taking a huge risk when they pay Griff to come to their squad. He's a liability at best. He'll probably single-handedly be the reason Hurley or Self get fired.

I would bet Prongle leaves. Wague might leave of his own accord when we sign a transfer C, not sure. If he’s cool with battling Sherrell to be the backuo C then he could stay.

Wagues defensive numbers were really good when he was on the floor and he has 2 years of eligibility left. The problem was with fouls and his foot injury he wasnt able to stay on the floor long.

The Griffen had the worst defensive rating came from Evan Miya. I haven't actually seen it, but it's been quoted in different places, i think I saw it on Reddit first, and it's since made the rounds.

But considering he was guarding an opponents best scorer every night, I'd expect his rating to suffer because of that. He's not perfect, but he plays his defense. Numbers can tell your a lot, but won't tell you everything. That's why Pannone watches 60 hours of film on our top targets.

That said, Youngblood seems to be a fantastic replacement, and he was on a good team. And USF fans I've read are cheering for him, but aren't salty at all, they just loved him as a player.

Mallette also seems to fit the offensive formula perfectly, though I'm not familiar with his defense. But with a fast as we snatched him after he entered, and the due diligence our staff is famous for, I'm confident he'll be solid.

He was guarding the opponents best guard because he was our only guard with any length and rarely did he stop them. When we won it was usually because we outscored people. Our defensive numbers were actually better when Rylan wasnt in the game, which was surprising to me too when I saw it.

Next year we’ll have a lot more length, that matters a lot when it comes to defense. When we had a top 3 defense the Brandon Miller year we had a lot of length, Uconn had a lot of length last year, I think their shortest starting guard was 6’4.

Griff guarded the opponent's best defender constantly because he's tall??

Ok, bruh.

Lack of length was why it was obvious this year wasn't going to be a top 3 defense. But it's kinda how the domino's fell last year.

I was honestly surprised when we grabbed both Wrightsell and Estrada from the portal, since they were both about 6'3". Obviously but great players, but that meant our top 4 guards were all short. And after the length we'd previously had at guard and wings, it wasn't what I was expecting from the portal.

I think Oats was frustrated with how our 3 point shooting finished last season, and prioritized shooting over length. But I think he's going to continue to learn and improve as a coach, and find that ideal balance.

You must think Oats is the worst coach in America for constantly putting his worst defender on the opponent's best player night in and night out, no?

Why wouldn't he put Walters out there more than Griff since he's statistically a better defender?? Or Cosby for that matter?

Walters did shoot a higher % from 3 and the charity stripe, too. Oats missed out on a natty for playing Griff so much. You really cracked the code. I make a motion that BAMA fire Oats and hire you as coach.

Griff's effort was the issue. Not his talent or ability. It was hard to get him to up his intensity game to game. He was better in the tourney, because of his effort. But dudes still scored on him. We had a gap in our defensive lineup that he was the only guy who was able to fill it height/length wise. If his effort had been better, then he would have been the defender a bunch of yall thought he was.
