He is a prick. But he's our prick therefore we love him. Wouldn't trade him for anybody.

I dont think that has anything to do with the athletic dept spending.

Don't forget Oats gently guided a Missouri player back toward the area of his own team’s bench - for his own good - this season too.

Seems like the more you practice on your homecourt the better your homecourt advantage would be.

Having an open court available. May be different for alabama but I know colleges use the gym.

Job fairs, expos, meetings, fundraisers ..ect ect....

Womens team, mens teams....

Just my opinion but I could see Coach Oates trying the pro ranks after us.

We haven’t paid a football buyout since 2007 and barely any basketball buyouts. We’ve won a ton of football championships and made runs in the tournament. Tv rights deals are astronomical.

Out of state tuition enrollment is sky high and there’s enough Alabama merchandise being sold to keep all the sweatshops in China open.

But sure we are bleeding money and can’t afford an arena.

Alabama did some accounting trick that led to them being in the hole this year but has benefits in the future or benefited them already.

UA AD revenues has nothing to do with NIL.

I truly believe UA AD is waiting for more favorable borrowing circumstances (interest rates) and stabilization on core construction goods (inflation).

It’s going to happen. This couldn’t work out any better than for KY to replace their coach right after Oats signs a huge contract extension with significant buyout. Thanks, UL and Mich, and thank YOU Greg Byrne!!!

Update: I failed to take into account the utter stupidity of the Arkansas athletic department.

Not only did they probably guarantee themselves 0 final fours in the next 5 years (and probably 0-1 E8s after getting 2 in the last 5), they just let one of their main competitors off the hook for a 33mm buyout, gave them a free chance to upgrade, and took away at least 1 more year of bad performance from them. Just amateur hour by Arky. Greg Byrne would never, ever have even had Cal in his top 20 list to replace Muss. SMH

Pio - tell your brass to get it together…they just hurt the entire conference by giving KY a get out of jail free card

Hope Oats truly is happy being a bit out of the limelight and truly happy in Tuscaloosa! Good thing we made the F4 this year, as I think that erased all doubt in his mind if he could win championships here.

Edited to 2 E8s, they had 3 S16s

Probably very true. But having worked in lending that can be a dicey and long game.

I wonder how refinancing works on a 400 million dollar arena loan.

I do know it is a good market for buying players with little regulatory oversight and restrictions. Whereas it is about the worst market possible to do major capital projects.

They run job fairs out of the football stadium booster section now and where the arena is/would be isn't really useful with all the other space on campus. It's out in the boondocks

Well cost of construction isn’t going to go down. It may level, but that’s optimistic. We have major international conflicts escalating that could make things way worse before they get better.

We kind of have to shite or get off the pot with the new arena. If we’re waiting then we’ll likely keep kicking the can down the road and pay more.

Campus will be out there one day. It really already is but will only continue as the big fine and performing arts center finishes

This is the most irritating part of it. Kentucky did not want to spend that buyout money. It's not even clear they could have spent it this offseason even if they wanted to. They were going to eventually, but it did not look like it'd be until next year at the absolute earliest. I mean it's almost like Arkansas is falling on the sword for them because there is like a 95% chance Kentucky comes out of all this smelling like roses and Arkansas is left holding the bag.
